You’re Ghetto.
So, amongst the various other books I am claiming to read, I’m reading this one, which takes a critical look at the conflation of Black culture, cool, and the meaning of “ghetto.” I highly recommend.
Anyhoo, this book has got me thinking more and more about what it means to be ghetto, and how to classify it.
Today during a (lame) staff excercise, I noticed one of the consultants, a blond-haired woman from the East coast with a Ph.D. had the TJ immunization mark on her arm. And I laughed. Cuz THAT’s ghetto.
The ghetto will sneak up on you sometimes.
Later, since I’m not watching this cycle, I learned that one of the girls on ANTM is from Harlem … AND she’s Asian … and has fake boobies. Of course this bitch is “ghetto.” Makes me wanna youtube the shit outta of this season now, cuz I know a million ghetto Asians, but it would be rad to see how one is portrayed on screen.
