Almost like clockwork, I sit here feeling choked up and on the verge of tears, for what reason, I have no clue, and yet here I am, alone in my thoughts, sad on this cold fall day.

Holy shit that sounds melodramatic. More bleeding hearts after the jump!

I’m convinced it’s something about the time right before the “holidays” where my body starts to have physical reactions to the lack of heat, translating to my brain that I should be as bummed out as I physically feel. There is no ray of hope – though I will be in San Diego soon, I’ll still feel homesick. Home is where the heart is, and though I miss my nuclear family and the place I was born and raised, it’s going to be different this year (which is why I didn’t bail on Thanksgiving in the first place) yet I will fall back into my role as the jester, the clown, the one that rallies the family in times of trouble and uncertainty, when I am the most uncomfortable and alone of them all. I want to stay in the Bay, I want to be in San Diego; I want a family to call my own already, one where I don’t have to choose and make others feel not as important. One where I’m happy, and is exactly where I want to be.

See, in this time, the thoughts start to creep in that I block out for so long. All the events and occurrences I brush off in my daily life in efforts to to grind come crashing back in this time when my mind wanders, remembering, wondering …

My throat starts to close up, and I find myself surprised at the sheer number of things I push backwards daily to stay sane, which make me feel even crazier as they reenter my mind, some for the first time in months, some that are constant, but “forgotten” to save face, save pride, be strong.

“Don’t let it get to you.”

“Kill them with kindness.”

Pretend you don’t know what they’re doing.

But I do know, and it does get to me. At this point, this post isn’t about one thing, my “sorrow” is built around a clusterfuck of events and people that I’ve never let see me without a smile, never knowing what they’ve done, or that I know what they’ve done. People laying wait in the shadows. Time spent dealing with shit that shouldn’t matter. Losing sleep, having fucking seizures man.

I know that I am blessed. I know that I lead a charmed life. I never said I didn’t. All the bullshit that gets me down will only get me down for so long.

It’s just these moments. Times like this that I feel my tear ducts welling. Times when I feel my breath catch in my chest. Times when I feel my stomach doing flip-flops.

And then I remember “…this too shall pass.”

Whoever said sake doesn't give you hangovers was a cold-blooded liar.

I am soooo ready to go home it’s not even funny. I almost never get homesick, but my mom emailed me the stupidest joke this morning (it had to do with dead monkeys) and I almost cried on BART. Yup, it’s time for Miss Shannon Elaine to get her ass to the 19.04. I’m looking forward to sunshine, bar fight partners, deviled eggs, the beach, warmth in general, carne asada fries, little (big) brothers, Wings ‘N’ Things, and Chargers games. Wednesday cannot come fast enough.
